Last year 2025, HSC Mozambique started a small agricultural initiative that blossomed into a powerful story of resilience and sustainability to the ministry. What began as simple vegetable planting has now evolved into a thriving project, with the team celebrating their first tomato harvests and preparing for the next phase—lettuce transplanting.

Tackling Drought with Conservation Agriculture
Mozambique faces recurring droughts, making traditional farming methods difficult. To overcome this challenge, the team adopted conservation agriculture practices:
- Soil enrichment to improve fertility and resilience.
- Moisture retention techniques that help crops survive in dry conditions.
- Manual watering using watering cans, a labor-intensive but effective method to sustain growth.
Impact on Community Livelihoods
This project has proven a success in improving its social and economic value to the community in the following ways:
- Families gained access to fresh, nutritious vegetables.
- Sales of produce will generate income, strengthening our ministry and the local economies.
- The initiative demonstrates how sustainable farming methods can uplift the ministry’s ability to local support financially and build resilience against climate challenges.
A Celebration of First Harvests
The team’s joy in celebrating the first harvests reflects more than just food production—it symbolizes hope, perseverance, and the rewards of sustainable practices for our ministry. This journey shows that with dedication and innovation, we can achieve more and communities can thrive through this initiative.
